Ships have dashboards… really big and expensive dashboards. And apparently the people driving them are supposed to look at them.

The best days to check your instruments are the clear ones.

When the sky’s blue, captains still glance at the dials. Not from fear—from craft.

In business, we watch the daily gauges: sales, cash, people. But one dial is easy to skip:

What might the business be worth today?

That’s not a for-sale sign.

It’s simply a way to see your own work through a different lens.

Sometimes it’s encouraging. Sometimes it reveals one small change you could make over the next 12 months that compounds into something much bigger.

Do this:

Stop.

No, really. Actually stop running your business long enough to give it a wellness check.

Set aside 90 minutes.

No consultants. No complicated spreadsheets.

Just you, your numbers, and a few honest questions.

Finally, ask yourself:

If I were buying this business today, what would excite me—and what would scare me?

And if someday you want to look at your business through that lens, I’m happy to help.
